MOMENT OF THE DEBATE: Ossoff on Offense, Slams Sen. Perdue for Being Totally Out of Touch While Georgians Suffer

Ossoff: “Senator, come out to the real world where people are suffering”

Ossoff: “This isn’t about Democrats versus Republicans and liberals versus conservatives. This is about the people of the United States against crooks like you”

Atlanta, Ga. — In today’s Atlanta Press Club/Georgia Public Broadcasting debate, one moment stood out, in which investigative journalist Jon Ossoff went on offense, slamming his opponent, Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.), for using his office to enrich himself while downplaying the risk of COVID-19 to the public.

Ossoff went on the attack, telling Perdue to “come out to the real world where people are suffering.”

215,000 Americans have died, and millions more are out of work as a result of the pandemic, which Perdue regularly downplayed in the early weeks and months, telling Georgians the risk to our health was “low,” and that the economic impact would be “little,” all while he heavily traded medical and vaccine stocks before the stock market crashed.

Later, when Ossoff pressed Perdue on whether he thought President Trump had done all he could have to protect Georgians, Perdue said, “I absolutely do.”
