BREAKING: Inside Elections Shifts Ossoff-Perdue Senate Race Toward Democrats

Widely accredited independent elections observers move the race two race ratings toward Ossoff, noting Perdue’s growing weakness and Ossoff’s dominant primary victory

Cook Political Report also moved Georgia into the “toss up” column this week

Atlanta, Ga. — Today, Nathan Gonzales’ Inside Elections updated their rankings of the Perdue-Ossoff Senate race, indicating a “serious” race and growing likelihood that Ossoff will unseat Perdue in November.

Since his decisive Democratic primary victory last month, investigative journalist and media executive Jon Ossoff’s campaign has built surging momentum.

Final primary vote totals show Democrats outvoted the GOP statewide by over 200,000 votes, and overall Democratic turnout broke all-time Georgia primary records. Ossoff also announced raising over $2.35 million in three weeks after his primary victory, with an average contribution in the second quarter of only $20.

Recent polls find Ossoff neck-and-neck with Perdue. Perdue’s approval ratings continue to slip as he faces increasing scrutiny for his stock trading before and during the pandemic, and after he recently doubled down on his support for the GOP’s Supreme court lawsuit seeking to eliminate the ACA altogether.

Under mounting pressure and with rapidly worsening poll numbers, the Trump campaign went on TV in Georgia in late June, and both Perdue and the NRSC followed suit, posting over $3 million in defensive ad buys. Then, this week, GOP dark money groups dumped over $21 million into the race to try to save Perdue as his reelection prospects continue to worsen.

The evidence is clear: Georgia is running away from the GOP, and they’re in deep trouble up and down the ballot.

“Senator David Perdue and the entire GOP are in panic mode about losing Georgia, and they should be. For weeks, Perdue downplayed the coronavirus pandemic while trading medical and vaccine stocks to line his own pockets. Georgia voters are rejecting Perdue’s corruption,” said Ellen Foster, Ossoff’s campaign manager. Jon’s focus on ensuring every Georgian has access to great health care, investing in infrastructure, reforming our corrupt campaign finance system, and passing a new Votings Right Act and Civil Rights Act are winning broad appeal.”
