Ossoff Slams Sen. Perdue for Mocking Social Distancing as Death Toll Climbs

Echoing Trump, Perdue mocks Ossoff for following CDC guidelines

COVID-19 hospitalizations are rising in Georgia; more than 1,000 Americans are dying per day

Ossoff: “Senator Perdue has never taken this virus seriously … When you go to the polls Tuesday, remember: Senator David Perdue doesn’t care about your family’s health.”

Perdue withdrew from final debate after Ossoff’s withering criticism of his COVID-19 record went viral

Atlanta, Ga. — Today, investigative journalist and Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Jon Ossoff slammed his opponent, Senator David Perdue (R-Ga.), for mocking CDC social distancing guidelines at a campaign stop in Columbus, Ga, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to kill 1,000 Americans or more per day and hospitalizations in Georgia are rising.

Speaking to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer yesterday, Perdue said, “I think Jon Ossoff may have been in town last night. There’s some meeting over there where they’re about 25 feet apart and there might be 10 people there.”

COVID-19 hospitalizations are increasing in Georgia, where more than 360,000 have been infected and nearly 8,000 have died of COVID-19. The disease is killing more than 1,000 Americans per day as the out-of-control pandemic accelerates nationwide. Just yesterday, Governor Brian Kemp entered quarantine after Georgia Congressman Drew Ferguson tested positive, just days after he attended a political event where many attendees did not wear masks.

President Trump, too, continues to ridicule and mock both wearing masks and social distancing, part of the GOP’s disastrous failures to combat this global pandemic.

Perdue’s mocking of CDC health guidelines follows his abrupt withdrawal from the final scheduled debate after the Senator’s disastrous debate performance on Wednesday in Savannah. Ossoff’s withering criticism of Perdue’s record on COVID-19 went viral and has received more than 12.8 million views.

In response to Perdue mocking social distancing practices, Ossoff released the following statement:

“Senator Perdue has never taken this virus seriously. He lied to us and claimed COVID-19 was no deadlier than the ordinary flu. Now, as hospitalizations climb in Georgia and more than 1,000 Americans lose their lives each day, Senator Perdue mocks CDC health guidelines. When you go to the polls Tuesday, remember: Senator David Perdue doesn’t care about your family’s health and he never has.”
